MOP (Minimum Occupation Period)
Housing
The Minimum Occupation Period is the number of years you must physically live in your HDB flat before you are allowed to sell it on the open market, rent out the whole flat, or buy certain private property. It is commonly five years for many flats, counted from when you collect the keys, and time when the flat is not occupied by owners generally does not count. The MOP is meant to keep public housing for genuine owner-occupiers rather than quick resale. The exact duration and what counts toward it are subject to the latest rules.
