Worth switching from a big telco to an MVNO to save money?

My family of four is paying quite a lot on our postpaid plans from one of the big three telcos. Friends keep telling me to switch to the cheaper SIM-only MVNO plans. Anyone made the switch and regretted it, especially on network quality and customer service?

We did a partial switch, moved the two adults to MVNO SIM-only and kept the kids on a cheap plan too. My honest experience: 95 percent of the time it's flawless, but I did notice slightly slower reconnection in some ulu areas and during huge crowd events like NDP the network got congested. For daily life it's totally fine. The bigger adjustment was giving up the phone subsidy, we now buy phones outright or on instalment separately, which actually made me realise how much the subsidised phone was costing me hidden in the plan. Do the total cost math over two years including the phone. For us MVNO won clearly. Just make sure you're not mid-contract with early termination charges before switching.

Switched all four of us to SIM-only MVNO plans over a year ago, saving is real, cut our bill by more than half. Network quality wise, most MVNOs actually piggyback on the big telcos' networks anyway, so coverage has been basically the same for me across MRT, malls, everywhere. The catch is customer service, MVNOs are mostly app and chat based, no fancy retail store to walk into and scold someone. If you're comfortable troubleshooting online, no issue. The other thing is data rollover and perks differ, so read the plan details. For a family just needing calls and data, the savings easily outweigh the minor inconvenience. No regrets here.
