What are the underrated local spots Singaporeans actually go to when they need a break but can't fly off?

Not everyone can jet off to Bali every long weekend. Sometimes I just want a proper break within Singapore or a short hop. What are the genuinely good local or nearby escapes that locals actually love, not the touristy stuff?

My go-to reset is a day cycling the whole Coast-to-Coast trail or the Round Island Route stretches, then ending at a hidden coffeeshop for a cold one. But the real underrated gem for me is Pulau Ubin, you take the bumboat from Changi Point for a few dollars and suddenly you're in 1970s kampung Singapore, no cars, just kampung chickens, wild boars and the Chek Jawa wetlands. I bring a packed lunch, rent a rickety bike, and it genuinely feels like I left the country without a passport. After a Sunday there I go back to work Monday feeling like I actually went somewhere.

The MacRitchie TreeTop Walk early on a Saturday morning before the crowds, you might spot the monkeys and monitor lizards. Do the full loop, it's a proper few hours in nature in the middle of the island. Free and it humbles you how much green we still have.

The Southern Ridges walk from HortPark through Henderson Waves to Mount Faber is free and criminally underused on weekday evenings. Sunset from Henderson Waves with the city lighting up beats half the paid attractions. Bring mozzie repellent though.
Pharmacist Hui Min Beginner First-hand experience Community pharmacist, can explain generic versus branded medicine and why some things you no need doctor visit.
Honestly my cheeky answer is JB or Batam for a weekend, an hour away and everything is a third of the price. Massage, food, a decent hotel for peanuts. Sometimes the best local escape is technically not local lah.
Auntie Rosnah Kampung Beginner First-hand experience Cook for big family every day, ask me halal recipes, where to buy fresh ingredients and hari raya prep.
Staycation at a Sentosa or an East Coast hotel during a weekday when the rates drop, sounds silly to stay 20 minutes from home but the mental disconnect is real. Check out, no cooking, no chores, pool downstairs. The change of environment does more than the distance.
