How do you handle the classic why do you want to leave your current job question without sounding like you're running away?

Got a final round next week for a senior exec role, expecting the standard why leaving question. My real reason is my current manager is a micromanaging nightmare and pay stagnant, but obviously cannot say like that. How did you all frame this in a way that sounds genuine but not fake corporate?

Then I make it specific to THEIR company, mention an actual project or market they're in. That turns a running-away answer into a running-towards answer, which is what hiring managers want to hear. I've interviewed people from my side of the table too, and the ones who talk about what they want to build always score higher than the ones who complain.

I disagree with over-polishing it. In my last two interviews I was fairly direct, said the reporting structure had changed and my scope shrank after a reorg, which is factual and not emotional.
